Sweet Dreams Ago

saw myself in the mirror, just the other day

     saw the lines of age and the signs of rage in my face

          you would never guess it to see me now

               but i once turned a head or two

                    twenty years and sweet dreams ago, twenty years and sweet dreams ago

left my home and my family, headed for big-city lights

     my prospects looked good and i knew i could do all right

          yes, i had great ambitions, but they suffered a setback or two

i knew my share of lovers, some i did not know well

     but those days are gone, now i long to hold you again

          every night as i think of you, i am sorry i hurt you so
